05:40 pm - HPV vaccine

Previous Entry Share Next Entry

I've heard recently on several forums that I visit that people are afraid that some parents won't want their daughters to be vaccinated against HPV. Now, I know that some parent's are anti-vaccinations anyway (my husband was for a while until I confronted him with facts and science and he agreed with me that it was best to vaccinate our son) but I'm talking about parents who would otherwise vaccinate their children. The debate is that maybe the parents will think it gives their daughter a license to be a big old whore. Do some parents really think these things? Would some parents rather punish their children for being sexually active with a potentially deadly sexually transmitted infection than protect them from it? I can't imagine any parent would choose to hurt their child like that. Why wouldn't anyone vaccinate their daughters against HPV?

Yes, some parents really think these things. When I was first diagnosed w/endometriosis at 17, our mom refused to let me go on the pill (which is what the dr recommended) because she said it would be like giving me a license to sleep around.
